In Studio City, the historic Hollywood Bowl is one of the best performance venues to visit for all sorts of entertainment. And this August, the Bowl celebrates the 50th anniversary of its annual Tchaikovsky Spectacular with an extra special weekend of concerts and firework shows.
You Said Tchaikovsky Spectacular?
Yep, that’s right and it’s happening at Hollywood Bowl this Aug 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. During the performance, conductor Bramwell Tovey will lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic and USC Trojan Marching Band through a wide variety of Tchaikovsky classics. Think: Polonaise and Waltz from Eugene Onegin; Swan Lake, Act IV; Capriccio Italien, Op. 45; and of course, 1812 Overture, Op. 49. The celebration will conclude, as always, with a brilliant fireworks display over Hollywood Bowl. Seats for both performances are filling fast and vary in price, depending on seat location. More About the Hollywood Bowl
Open since 1922, the Hollywood Bowl has a rich history of exciting performances and notable events. The night of the concert, arrive early and peruse the Hollywood Bowl Museum. Walk through exhibits and learn about the Bowl’s history in the Los Angeles area. See how iconic performers like Nat “King” Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles and Elton John made the Hollywood Bowl what it is today. Check out all the museum’s exhibits on display here. The museum is open year-round with special seasonal hours. You can peruse at your leisure or you can book special group tours for a behind-the-scenes experience.
Food at Hollywood Bowl
Believe it or not, you can stay right in the Hollywood Bowl for extremely tasty food. The Bowl’s culinary program was designed by James Beard Award-winning chef Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne. In other words, the food is really good. Order complete meals ahead of time, served right at your seats. Or, pick up a pre-ordered “picnic box” to enjoy at your seat or at one of the Bowl’s picnic areas. You can also stop by one of the three Marketplaces within the Bowl for sandwiches, salads, artisanal snacks and drinks.
